Tour Description

The Everest Base Camp Trek (EBC Trek) offers a complete 14 days hiking schedule from Kathmandu, Nepal, to the base camp of Mt. Everest, the world's highest peak with 8,848.86 meter elevation. Being the glory and pride of Nepal, Nepalese refer to Everest as Mt. Sagarmatha. The trek to Everest Base Camp gives you an incredible up-close glimpse of the gigantic Mount Everest from every viewpoint.

The Everest Base Camp Trek, popularly known as "the stairway to heaven" includes simple and rigorous climbs, making it ideal for explorers. Around 35,000 tourists explore Everest Base Camp each year, and about 1000 ascend Mount Everest, the tallest summit on the globe.

Every turn in the Everest Base Camp trail leads to something new: a rhododendron woodland, streams, hillsides, glacier, and the rich traditions of a Sherpa hamlet. The bright spots of the Khumbu Valley will be on display during your 14-day journey to Everest Base Camp, including the bustling market town of Namche Bazaar, the historic sanctuary at Tengboche, the breathtaking abundant wildlife of Sagarmatha Nature Reserve, and the towering views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Choyu and Mt. Ama Dablam.

For adventurers throughout the world, trekking ranks highly on their checklists of activities to do. People also ascend Mount Everest to demonstrate their courage in the midst of challenges. Relive and recall the triumphant ascent of Mount Everest that Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa made in 1953.

Ideal Season for Everest Basecamp Trekking

When heading for a hike, one must be mindful of the season they decide to go. And what exactly time of year is the ideal season for Everest Basecamp Trekking? Hiking Bees advise you to reserve this excursion for the spring and autumn seasons.

Through splitting these seasons further, spring lasts from March to May. These are pleasant hiking months because of the milder weather. During this season, the flowers are fully bloom, and the pathway is lined with petals and leaves.

Autumn, which lasts from September to November, is the second-optimal season. These months are characterized by vibrant clouds and a refreshing atmosphere.

Additionally, if you visit EBC in the month of October, you could attend the renowned Mani Rimdu festival which is celebrated by Buddhists for 19 days

Normally, we advise avoiding hikes to Everest Basecamp in the summer. Although, Hiking Bees would be pleased to plan a suitable Himalayan trip to EBC if your timetable for visiting Nepal is scheduled during the summer.

Permits Required  for Everest Base Camp Trekking

To embark on the unforgettable journey of the Everest Base Camp trek, certain permits are required by the Government of Nepal. These permit entrance fees serve as an investment in preserving the awe-inspiring beauty of the Himalayan range, particularly the cherished Sagarmatha National Park.

When considering the overall cost of your trip to Nepal and the Everest Region, the permit fees are relatively modest. They symbolize a commitment to safeguarding the future of this remarkable area, encompassing pristine snow, enchanting forests, majestic ice formations, tranquil pastures, and a rich cultural heritage.

For those embarking on the Everest Base Camp (EBC) Trek, the following entrance permits are necessary:

1. Sagarmatha National Park Permit:

Sagarmatha National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a protected area through which the Everest Base Camp trek passes. To enter the park, you will need to obtain a Sagarmatha National Park Permit. You can get this permit in Kathmandu or Monjo, the entrance gate to the national park.

2. Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entry Permit:

The Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality is the local government body responsible for the Everest region. As part of the Everest Base Camp trek, you will need to obtain an entry permit from this municipality. This permit is usually available in Lukla, the starting point of the trek.

Price for the permits:

  • Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit (NPR 2000 per person)
  • Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit (NPR 3000 per person)

By obtaining these permits, you not only gain access to an extraordinary adventure but also contribute to the conservation of this remarkable natural wonder.

These permits are essential and are checked at various points along the trekking route. They help to ensure the conservation of the area and provide revenue for local communities.

It's important to note that the permit requirements and fees may change over time. Therefore, it is advisable to check with the appropriate authorities or consult with a reliable trekking agency in Nepal to get the most up-to-date information before embarking on your Everest Base Camp trek.

How challenging is Everest Basecamp Trekking?

The Everest Basecamp Trekking, with an almost 130km trek length, is the most popular and demanding hiking destination based on the trekking trails as well as feedback from hikers. Experienced trekkers won't struggle on this walk, but newcomers may encounter some challenges. As this is a high altitude trek i.e. up to 5500m with unpaved roads, normal people can have difficulty in breaking and walking.

Safety and Altitude Acclimatization

Altitude sickness, also known as acute mountain sickness (AMS), is a potential risk when trekking to higher elevations. To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, it's crucial to prioritize altitude acclimatization. Here are some measures we take to minimize the risk:

  1. Gradual Ascent: Our carefully designed itinerary includes rest days and gradual ascents, allowing your body to adapt to the increasing altitude. This helps reduce the chances of AMS.

  2. Hydration and Nutrition: Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids, especially water. Consume a balanced diet with carbohydrate-rich meals to fuel your body and support altitude adaptation.

  3. Awareness of Symptoms: Our experienced guides closely monitor your health and well-being throughout the trek. They are trained to identify early symptoms of AMS, such as headaches, nausea, dizziness, and loss of appetite. Prompt action can be taken to ensure your safety.

  4. Safety Briefings: Prior to the trek, our guides provide comprehensive safety briefings, educating you about altitude sickness, its symptoms, and preventive measures. They will also guide you on the appropriate response if symptoms occur.
