The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek takes you to the heart of the Annapurna region from Pokhara's busy, bustling city. The 4-day journey begins with a drive from Pokhara to Ulleri via Nayapul and Tikhedhunga. The trek starts from Tikhedhunga, where you will get to Ghorepani, an ancient ethnic Gurung village.  You will get to enjoy the scenic drive surrounded by hills and beautiful views of mountains from afar.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 : Drive from Pokhara to Ulleri via Tikhedhunga/Trek to Ghorepani(2860m)

Our first day of the Poon Hill Trek will start at Pokhara. We will pack our bags and leave Lake City with a scenic drive via Nayapul and Tikhedhunga. After a few hours of drive, we will get to Ulleri to start our trek. 

The trek begins on the 1st day itself from Ulleri and will end at Ghorepani. The trails offer magnificent views of the Annapurna range, Macchapucchre, Dhaulagiri, and Hiunchuli. You will trek through the rhododendron forest to end the day at Ghorepani. Ghorepani is also home to more than eight species of Rhododendron flower. If you are trekking during March-April, get ready to be overwhelmed with the beautiful rhododendron forest.

After a fun cultural night at Ghorepani, we will have a short 45 mins ascend to the Poon Hill viewpoint(3210m). Before dawn, we will start our hike early to enjoy the beautiful sunrise. The first rays of the sun striking the Annapurna range, Macchapucchre, Dhaulagiri, and Hiunchuli mountains make it an unforgettable experience. 

After 45 minutes to an hour on the viewpoint, we will return to our Ghorepani lodge. We will continue our descent after a local breakfast at Ghorepani. The trail will take you through the dense forest in Deurali and finally reach Tadapani after about 4 hours of walk.

On the 3rd day, we will descend from Tadapani to Jhinu Danda, where we will relax and take out all the exhaustion on the natural hot springs. We ascend through the lush rhododendron, bamboo, and oak forest through Kimron River and Chomrong village.

From Jhinu Danda, we start walking along the plan dust roads through the Modi River. After the final few hours of walking, we will reach Siwa/Ghandruk Phedi. Our trekking ends at Siwa/Ghandruk Phedi, and we begin our drive towards the Pokhara.

In the afternoon, we will stroll around the beautiful lakeside of Pokhara, reminiscing the memories we made in the last 4 days.

How Long Does It Take To Hike To Poon Hill

A typical Poon Hill hike takes about 4 days starting from Pokhara and ending in Pokhara, however, it can be completed within 2-5 days depending upon the preferences of trekkers.

 

2 day Poon Hill Hike (Cost: $215 per person)

  • Day 1: Drive from Pokhara to Ulleri and trek to Ghorepani
  • Day 2: Hike to Poon Hill and the same way back to Ulleri, Drive back to Pokhara.

 

3-day Poon Hill Hike (Cost: $250 per person)

Required Transportation for the Poon Hill trek

Transportation from Kathmandu to Pokhara

The transportation from Kathmandu to Pokhara is not included in the package as this trek starts from Pokhara, however, Hiking Bees can arrange transportation from Kathmandu to Pokhara and back as well depending upon your preference.

You have two options to reach Pokhara from Kathmandu and vice versa.

Kathmandu to Pokhara by Air

You can take a domestic flight from Tribhuvan Airport and reach Pokhara by a 30-minute flight. This is the most efficient way to reach Pokhara from Kathmandu.

Kathmandu to Pokhara by Ground

If you want to choose the ground transportation option, then You can take a tourist bus from Sorakhutte, Near Thamel. The bus ride will take about 8 hours to reach Pokhara. The cost of the bus to Pokhara is approx. $15 per person.

If you want to make your tour private then you can also hire a private car or a jeep to reach Pokhara.

Pokhara is about 200km from Kathmandu.

 

Pokhara to Ulleri

We will be taking a shared jeep or a public bus from Pokhara to reach Ulleri, the starting point of the trek. with an extra additional cost, you also have the option to hire a private jeep as well.

 

Permits Required For Poon Hill Trek

The Poon Hill Trek lies in the famous Annapurna region of Nepal. All treks in the Annapurna Conservation Region compulsorily require an ACAP(Annapurna Conservation Area Project) permit. Along with ACAP you also require TIMS( Trekkers Information Management System) for all treks in Nepal. These permits will be prepared by certified trekking agencies in Nepal.

ACAP permits cost:

  • For SAARC Countries: $10 approx

TIMS Card Cost : 

  • For Foreigners: Nrs.3000

Network and Services in Poon Hill Trekking

Unlike a few years back, You get a good network signal and most of the Tea houses provide you wifi. The trail has a 4g connection coverage by which you can connect to people easily. However due to geographical structure, there may be some disruptions on the network especially in the lover part or in between the hills.
