For the Langtang Valley trek, the most common starting point is Syabrubesi which is about 8-9 hours drive from Kathmandu. Syabrubesi lies in the Langtang National Park and is about 122 km far from Kathmandu. Syabrubesi is also commonly renowned as the starting point for treks like the Tamang Heritage Trail, Gosaikunda Lake Trek, Ganja La Pass Trek, and the Gosainkunda Pass Trek.

 

Transportation Options for Langtang Trek

You have multiple transportation options to reach the starting point of the Langtang Trek (Syabrubesi). Here are the available options:

 

Catching a Local Bus to Syabrubesi

Local Bus is a common and cheapest way to reach Syabrubesi from Kathmandu. You can go to Nayabus Park and catch a bus from there. Usually, three/ four buses depart from Kathmandu every day. Starting from 6 am to 9 am (one every hour).

The bus is the cheapest way to reach Syabrubesi from Kathmandu. The bus ticket will cost Nrs. 1100 (10$) per head and the cost is the same for the return ticket as well.

You will have a few stops for lunch and toilet breaks along the journey, during which you can have some mind-blowing views. If you don’t mind experiencing a thrilling local bus ride then this is the best opportunity to give it a go. You can expect few people on the hood of the bus and sometimes you can see goats and chickens as well.

Although people in Nepal are kind and helpful to you however, one thing to keep in mind during these bus rides is potential threats and security risks because all people may not have the same intentions and you need to be careful with it.



Catching a Shared Jeep to Syabrubesi

Another option to reach the starting point of Langtang Valley Trek is to get a shared jeep from Kathmandu. The Jeep to Syabrubesi also departs from Machhapokhari and leaves every half an hour. Usually, 4-5 jeeps depart every morning starting from 7 am.

Jeep is comparatively faster than local buses as it is small in size. The Jeep can fit about 8 to 10 people and you need to book tickets early if you want to leave early or hold your seat during the peak seasons.

Jeep tends to be more expensive than local buses. You can get a shared jeep to Langtang from Kathmandu at 15$ per person.

 

Hiring a Private Vehicle

If you don’t want other people around you and want to travel in peace then you can hire a private jeep from Kathmandu. Private Vehicles tend to be a lot more comfortable than other means and will be a lot more flexible.

You will be picked up from your hotel and headed straight to your destination. You can stop whenever or wherever you want during the journey and take a glance at the mesmerizing views.

The vehicles will be equipped with AC and proper safety. Vehicles like Scorpio and Land Cruiser are quite popular here in Nepal for private vehicles.

Although hiring a private vehicle is a little costlier, you can skip the hassle and reach your destination on time. Hiring a private jeep from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi will cost around 250$ and will fit about 7 people in it.



By Private Helicopter

People who don’t have much time can opt for a helicopter and can directly fly to Kyanjin Gompa. You can see the majestic Himalayas in the Langtang range and fly back to Kathmandu on the same Heli. however, you can trek down from there and hike for a few days if you want to do a little bit of trekking in the Langtang region. 

You can fit up to 5 people in a helicopter.

 

Transport back to Kathmandu

For the return journey, you will have all the same options and can choose what do you prefer for a journey from Langtang to Kathmandu.
