It is situated within the Shivapuri National Park, and the entrance to the Nagarjun forest is just over 9 km from Kathmandu, near the Swayambhunath Stupa and the Balaju Water Gardens. The journey to Nagarjuna takes approximately 20 minutes by car or 2 and a half hours on foot, passing through the Raniban (Queen of Forest) area to reach the stupa.
