Lukla Flight Information
Flights from Kathmandu/Manthali to Lukla
During the peak trekking months of March, April, May, October, and November, flights from Kathmandu to Lukla are often rerouted to Manthali due to high traffic at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). The drive from Kathmandu to Manthali takes approximately five hours, so we will arrange for your pickup from the hotel around 1:00 am to ensure you catch the 20-minute flight from Manthali to Lukla. However, during the off-peak seasons (January, February, June, July, August, September, and December), you can enjoy a direct 40-minute flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. Our guide will meet you at your hotel around 5 am to take you to TIA for your morning flight.
Flights Back to Kathmandu/Manthali
During the peak trekking seasons, your return flight from Lukla may land at Manthali instead of Kathmandu, and we will then arrange transportation for your journey back to Kathmandu. In the off-peak months, flights from Lukla will directly take you back to Kathmandu.
Additional Flight Information and Tips
If your flight is rerouted to Manthali, be prepared for the early departure from Kathmandu and the scenic, yet lengthy, drive to Manthali. Although the road journey is about five hours, it offers a glimpse into Nepal's countryside, making the experience unique. The flight from Manthali to Lukla is short, lasting only 20 minutes, but it provides breathtaking views of the Himalayas, making the early start worthwhile.
During the off-peak seasons, the direct flight from Kathmandu to Lukla is convenient and time-efficient, allowing you to avoid the long drive to Manthali. To ensure a smooth experience, our team will handle all the logistics, from hotel pickup to airport transfers, so you can focus on your adventure ahead.
When Should You Book a Trek
Booking a trek in Nepal requires a lot of planning and patience, The ideal time to book a trek is when you are ready and clear about the trek. Normally people book 3 to 6 months prior to trekking. However, there’s no such thing as booking too early you can even book a Nepal trek for next year.
In short, there’s no fixed time for booking, the best time for booking a trek is when you are clear about your decision. You choose your desired trek season and select a departure date and then you are good to go.
Last Minute Bookings
Hiking Bees accepts trek bookings even if it’s 24 hours before the departure. We even departed treks the same day of booking, However for a smooth operation of the trek we recommend trekkers book a trek at least a week before.
